The Canadian Academy of Architecture for Justice fully aligns with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s stance on Taking Action Against Systemic Racism and the American Institute of Architects’ statement on racial injustice. We acknowledge that systemic racism leads to the disproportionate representation of Black, Indigenous, and people of colour in the Canadian justice system, along with discrimination faced by the LGBT2Q+ community and other minorities.
As architects, we recognize the opportunity we have to drive positive change in the transformation of the justice system. Since our establishment, we have been committed to educating our members, disseminating new ideas and best practices in the planning and design of justice facilities, and encouraging innovative thinking through student competitions.
