Don Valley Community Legal Services is a combination of two grassroots, not-for-profit legal clinics – East Toronto Community Legal Services and Flemingdon Community Legal Services. Both clinics have been assisting clients in their respective communities for many years.

East Toronto Community Legal Services was originally known as Riverdale Socio-Legal Services, incorporated in 1978. Its name was changed to East Toronto Community Legal Services in 1984 to reflect its expanded catchment area. On April 12, 2019, it received official approval to amalgamate with Flemingdon Community Legal Services.

Flemingdon Community Legal Services was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1983, after starting to serve clients in their community in 1980. On April 12, 2019, it also received official approval to amalgamate with East Toronto Community Legal Services.

Together, the amalgamated corporation, Don Valley Community Legal Services, carries on the important work of both clinics under one umbrella. The clinic is funded by Legal Aid Ontario and has a local board of directors to ensure that its work is community-driven. It is one of several community legal clinics under Legal Aid Ontario, and having a local board is crucial in directing the work that each clinic does, as each community has unique needs.

Don Valley Community Legal Services values its board members, general members, and volunteers. Volunteers may assist with community fairs, information tables, or other services. The clinic also has a Community Services Committee that meets monthly to provide community consultation to the board.
